Revenge of the Iron Lich Errata and Updates

errata

Errata? Fuck!

Based on some of the great actual-play feedback we’ve been getting from you all, we’ve made some changes and updates to Revenge of the Iron Lich to bring it in line with the level of difficulty and play experience we intended.

These changes are optional and relatively minor – thus, don’t feel compelled to implement these changes. However, if you plan on running this at a convention, games day, or other public play event, these updates are ‘required.’

The adventure itself has been updated to reflect these changes. In addition, we took the opportunity to correct some typographical errors and ambiguities in the document. See the adventure FAQ for more insight into some of the module’s stickier points.

Finally, we’ve included C. Steven Ross‘s super-helpful Deck of Mortals handout in the archive.

As always, you can hit up sersa@saveversusdeath.com with questions and bug reports.

13 Dungeoneers Perished Here
  1. Mar 10 2011

I’m tickled that some of the events of the session I ran directly led to this dungeon being even harder to complete.

The Iron Lich doesn’t just let people troll into his Tomb and wreck up the place without making a few adjustments! :)

Actually, there were a couple things we were reading/seeing that we wanted to address before stuff like PAX and the Spring meetups.

Great work, all around! Nice handouts and a very difficult-looking dungeon. I’ve been adding them to my latest d20 future adventure kit for the next episode of our adventure!

The artwork really helps bring together the descriptive prose and presents the challenges well, especially the ciphertext runes.

One question — have your adventurers been able to get through the entire adventure in 4 hours? It seems like it’s scoped for a 2-night or extended-play session.

Thanks for the kind words. :)

See the FAQ for answers to your questions.

    Couple questions regarding the pre-gens:

    1) all characters except the fighter have 25k gold on their person. Is this correct? If so, can the characters spend it as they see fit prior to the adventure? Any reason the fighter has a riding horse but no gold (well 280 but who’s counting)?

    2) The bard has a ritual book as inventory but also has the Alchemist feat to replace ritual caster. Which is correct? Does she start with any formula or just has to buy them with their starting gold?

    • Mar 31 2011

      1) They should all have 25k gold on their person, that was a mistake on my part. They should not be able to spend it prior to the adventure. The fighter has a riding horse because it was not created from scratch like the others, also a mistake on my part.

      2) The alchemist feat is correct, I auto-added his gear so it probably gave him a ritual book by default.

I will make the necessary changes and get a newer batch of pregens out ASAP. Please make note of the following however:

      * Starting gold was only per standard for their character level and was really only intended for ritual casting costs. This was before making changes to the rituals being cast within the adventure, making gold irrelevant in this adventure (unless of course someone devises an elaborate plan of stacking coins together or…something)

      * The alchemist feat will be removed from the bard and replaced with something more suitable. The dungeoneers aren’t meant to be hanging around brewing up concoctions as they see fit, time is of the essence! (and hindsight is 20/20)

Expect an update by the weekend.

Thanks in advance for the update.

I was planning on handing out some consumables, potions and whatnot, I didn’t really think that would have much affect on the adventure. Thoughts?

Any word on the updated pre-gen characters?

            Done, thanks!

Also, FYI, on the rogue Velata, the feat bonus to attack rolls for Master at Arms and Light Blade Expertise doesn’t stack, so it seems like Master at Arms is a mostly wasted feat (since this PC seems geared towards melee attacks with the shortsword).

And lastly, the elven wizard Varis, doesn’t indicate what his familiar is, or its bonuses.
